In 1992, two 501(c)(3) organizations, The New Hampshire Lakes Legislative Coalition, Inc., from the Lake Sunapee region focused on advocacy, and The New Hampshire Lakes Federation, Inc., from the Lakes Region focused on education, combined to form the statewide New Hampshire Lakes Association, Inc. (NH LAKES), also a 501(c)(3) organization.
To keep New Hampshire’s lakes clean and healthy, and in the future. We work with partners, promote clean water policies and responsible use and inspire the public to care for our lakes.
We are committed to the best possible stewardship of New Hampshire’s precious natural, economic and community resources – our lakes and their watersheds.
We value working in partnership with local associations (lake, pond, and watershed groups), individuals and others who share our mission, adding value and capacity to their efforts to protect New Hampshire lakes and their watersheds.
We value a scientific, fact-based approach in support of our educational and advocacy efforts.
We are committed to communicating and responding in a timely, effective and transparent manner with our membership, our supporters and partners.
Building local, community, and statewide alliances and networks.
Advocating for effective public policy through partnerships, representation, coalitions, and other means of relationship building.
Educating and developing programs to aid local partners and lake communities to mitigate the threats to lake and pond water quality; specifically targeting aquatic invasive species and stormwater runoff.
Securing the necessary people, finances, and organizational capacity.
