LakeSmart: A Lake-Friendly Living Program

Clean water, thriving wildlife, and lasting lake enjoyment start with how we care for our properties and spend our time in, on, and around our lakes.

The LakeSmart Program helps property owners, like YOU, understand how their choices impact lake health—and how simple changes in their home, property, and lifestyle can make a big difference.

While many participants connect to us through their local LakeSmart Community, anyone can participate in this free, educational program to become more lake-friendly.

LakeSmart is a free, non-regulatory, and voluntary education and recognition program encouraging community members to adopt habits that protect lake water quality, wildlife habitat, and property values.

Communities in Action

NH LAKES has teamed up with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services to help local communities fight harmful cyanobacteria blooms in our lakes. These blooms, which can be toxic, have been popping up more and more in recent summers, posing serious risks to people, pets, drinking water, property values, and tourism.

Learn how six communities around the state are completing lake-friendly projects to fight back against cyanobacteria.
